Cape Town – His Majesty King Mswati III has given E5 000 each to 11 emaSwati students studying at universities in Cape Town, South Africa, to assist with their academic needs and general upkeep.
The gesture was announced by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Senator Pholile Shakantu at a luncheon held in honour of the students in Cape Town. The students are enrolled at Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town. Only 11 were present at the event, as others had travelled home for the holiday break or had already completed their studies.
During the luncheon, the King praised the South African people for their longstanding hospitality towards emaSwati. He noted that emaSwati are traditionally known as humble, respectful and law-abiding, qualities that have allowed them to integrate well into other societies, including South Africa, and urged emaSwati living in the country to uphold that reputation at all times. 
King Mswati also expressed hope that calm and mutual understanding would prevail amid rising tensions linked to the civil-led anti-immigration movement known as “March on March.”
The King further called for the appointment of an Eswatini liaison officer in Cape Town, citing the isolation and unique difficulties faced by students living far from home.
