Ezulwini – Central bank governors and banking experts from across Southern Africa have gathered at the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) Complex in Ezulwini for a two-day meeting aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in banking supervision and financial stability.
The SADC Committee for Central Bank Governors (CCBG) convened on Thursday, July 30, 2026, bringing together representatives from the region’s central banks to review progress and map out future collaboration across increasingly interconnected financial systems.
CBE Governor Dr. Phil Mnisi opened the meeting by warning that regional banking systems face real cross-border risks. “This interconnectivity requires stronger regional collaboration through meaningful supervisory colleges, routine information sharing, and early consultation before local issues escalate,” he said.
SADC CCBG Sub Committee Chairperson Lyness Phiri Mambo added: “As our financial systems become more interconnected and exposed to new risks, it is important that we continue to act with clarity, consistency, and resolve.”
During the two-day gathering, participants are scheduled to take part in a panel discussion on emerging technologies and cybersecurity resilience, as well as review progress under the 2024 to 2026 CCBG Strategy. Key focus areas include financial stability assessments, crisis management frameworks, and advancing digital financial services to support inclusive growth across the region.
