TAIPEI, Taiwan – President Lai Ching-te of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has said that his country values the friendship it has with the Kingdom of Eswatini, further stating that both countries will expand collaboration in energy, health & industrial development and prosperity as he welcomed Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini in his presidential offices on Tuesday.
“Happy to welcome PM Russell M. Dlamini back to Taiwan after my May state visit to Eswatini. We value your friendship & advocacy for our international participation. Expanding cooperation in energy, health & industrial development, our firm partnership brings shared prosperity,” President Lai posted on X.

President Lia landed in Eswatini on May 2, 2026, aboard an Eswatini aircraft and was received by His Majesty King Mswati III after Taiwan had diplomatic fallout with China.
He missed the initially planned 22 to 26 April 2026 trip to observe King Mswati III’s 58th birthday celebrations and the 40th anniversary of Eswatini’s throne.
Prime Minister Dlamini left for his second official visit to Taiwan on Monday to attend the Ketagalan Forum: 2026 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue and meet President Lai.
The Eswatini government’s communication office said Dlamini has held bilateral talks with President Lai in Taipei, where the two leaders reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between the two countries.
“During the meeting, the leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and explored opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including trade and investment, innovation, digital transformation, healthcare, education, agriculture, renewable energy, and youth empowerment.
“The Prime Minister also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Government, and the people of the Kingdom of Eswatini to President Lai Ching-te and the people of Taiwan. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the longstanding diplomatic relations between Eswatini and Taiwan,” the government said.
The Prime Minister is also expected to meet with Acer founder Stan Shih, visit the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the Shalun Green Energy Science City in Tainan.
