Mbabane – The Municipal Council of Mbabane has received the Corporate Ethical Procurement and Supply Certification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), placing the local authority among organisations recognised for maintaining ethical and accountable procurement standards.
The certification was presented during the CIPS Africa Conference and Awards, where the council was recognised for its procurement systems, governance structures and supply chain practices.
According to the council, the certification provides international recognition of its efforts to ensure that procurement processes are fair, transparent and responsible, while following accepted global standards. 
The achievement is expected to strengthen the council’s institutional credibility and public confidence in how municipal resources are managed.
For residents of Mbabane, the certification means procurement decisions are expected to be guided by fairness and transparency, while public funds are managed with greater accountability. The council also said ethical and competitive processes for selecting suppliers and service providers can help reduce risks linked to corruption, fraud and inefficiency.
The certification is also expected to support better value for money in municipal projects and services, with procurement and supply chain functions focused on reducing risks and improving efficiency.
The council said the recognition forms part of its wider ambition to transform Mbabane into a Smart City built around innovation, sustainability, efficiency and citizen focused services.
The Smart City programme requires investment in infrastructure, technology, digital solutions, environmental sustainability and public services. The council said strong procurement systems are important in ensuring such investments are made responsibly and transparently.
Through the certification, the council aims to strengthen its ability to deliver sustainable development projects, establish trusted relationships with suppliers and investors, improve operational efficiency and accountability, and create opportunities for innovation through transparent procurement.
The council said the achievement is therefore aligned with its plans to develop a modern, inclusive and resilient capital city capable of responding to the changing needs of residents and businesses.
The local authority credited its leadership, procurement professionals, employees, stakeholders and partners for contributing to the achievement.
As it marks the recognition at the CIPS Africa Conference and Awards, the council said it will continue working on ethical leadership, improved service delivery and the advancement of its Smart City agenda.
