PIGG’S PEAK: His Majesty’s Correctional Services has started a four day Executive Command Leadership Retreat aimed at strengthening strategic leadership, accountability and corporate governance within the department.
The retreat began on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, at Pigg’s Peak Hotel and will end on Friday, 21 August 2026.
It is being held under the theme “Strengthening Corporate Governance for Strategic Leadership, Accountability and Organisational Excellence.” 
Acting Commissioner General Luke Malindzisa officially opened the retreat in the presence of eight other members of the Executive Command and senior management.
Malindzisa outlined the purpose of the programme and encouraged senior officers to participate fully in the discussions and activities planned for the four days.
He also thanked Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini for initiating the executive retreat as part of efforts to strengthen HMCS and support the objectives of its strategic plan.
Regional Commissioners, Officers in Charge of correctional centres and Heads of Sections are expected to join the programme on its final day.
Their participation will broaden the discussions and allow the department’s leadership to consider strategic priorities across all areas of HMCS.
Strategic priorities
The retreat is linked to His Majesty King Mswati III’s declaration of 2026 as the Year of Agape Love, the 2026 Speech from the Throne and the Government Programme of Action.
It is also intended to strengthen leadership ownership of the HMCS Strategic Plan for 2026 to 2031.
The programme will support the department’s Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning commitments for the 2026/27 financial year.
HMCS was rated the best performing government department during the 2025/26 financial year, recording a performance score of 75 per cent.
Sessions during the retreat will cover corporate governance, ethical leadership, strategic planning, performance management, accountability, patriotism and civic education.
The discussions are intended to strengthen the Executive Command’s understanding of its responsibilities and the role HMCS plays as a public institution.
The department is responsible for providing safe and modern correctional services while supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders.
Facilitators
Tuesday’s programme was facilitated by Alex Mfanuzile Mngomezulu, a business leader, financial strategist and company director.
Mngomezulu has experience in strategic management, corporate finance, investment management, corporate governance and business operations.
He is also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of KAM Corporate, a management consulting company that provides business advisory, strategic management, corporate finance, investment management, investment property and agribusiness services.
During the opening day, Mngomezulu took the Executive Command through leadership lessons and team building activities.
The remaining sessions will be facilitated by representatives from the Eswatini Institute of Management and Public Administration, the University of Eswatini and the Attorney General’s Office.
