MANZINI: The Manzini Municipal Council has confirmed that one person died in an incident at the Bhunu Mall construction site on Tuesday evening.
The Council issued a statement on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, expressing condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been established. 
The Council said the relevant authorities were investigating and that it would not comment on the cause of the incident until the investigations were complete.
Municipality officials are working with Bhunu Mall management, the contractor, emergency services and regulatory authorities to support what they described as a thorough and transparent investigation.
Construction work at the site has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigations.
The Council appealed to members of the public to allow the official processes to continue and said verified updates would be issued through official channels.
It also reminded companies involved in construction work within Manzini to comply fully with construction, health and safety regulations.
“The safety and wellbeing of workers and the public are of paramount importance to the Municipality,” the Council said.
The Council extended its sympathies to the bereaved family and all those affected by the incident.
