Eswatini has launched its first Advanced Aquaculture Research and Production Centre to support fish farmers and strengthen the country’s aquaculture sector. Prime Minister Russell Dlamini, represented by Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka, officiated the opening, marking a major step in addressing the longstanding shortage of fingerlings.

The centre will produce young fish stock in large quantities, ensuring farmers have a reliable supply. It will also serve as a research hub to improve production techniques and boost efficiency.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister stressed the need to diversify protein sources to combat malnutrition, particularly among children. He noted that fish is an affordable and accessible source of nutrition and presents economic opportunities for rural communities and young entrepreneurs.
