Taiwan to build exclusive industrial park in Eswatini

TOKYO– A new industrial park backed by Taiwanese investors is set to rise near the Royal Science and Technology Park in Pocweni, promising over 10,000 jobs for emaSwati within the next five years.

Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, made the announcement in Taipei during a business engagement hosted at the Shangri-La Hotel, where a high-level Eswatini delegation met with Taiwanese counterparts. The deal will see 158 hectares of land allocated for the first phase of the project, with plans to extend to 500 hectares.

The industrial park, which will operate under Special Economic Zone status, is expected to attract manufacturing and technology firms from Taiwan. The site’s location near major transport routes adds to its appeal for export-focused industries.

This development follows a string of diplomatic visits and investment meetings between the two countries, including a recent business forum at the Mountain View Hotel in Mbabane and a visit by Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Khumalo said government is ready to support the smooth rollout of the project, which aligns with Eswatini’s broader efforts to industrialise and strengthen its economy through strategic international partnerships.
