UK mission marks King Charles’ birthday in Ezulwini

Ezulwini — Government officials, diplomats, businesspeople, civil society leaders and South African music legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka gathered at the British High Commission on Wednesday evening to celebrate King Charles III’s 77th birthday.

The event, hosted at the UK envoy’s residence, drew a wide range of guests, including several Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and leaders from faith groups.

British High Commissioner to Eswatini, Colin Wells, said although the monarch was born in November, the UK traditionally marks the occasion in June to avoid the cold and rainy season back home.

He said the gathering was not just about cake and speeches, but also about connecting with partners in Eswatini. According to Wells, the UK is focused on strengthening trade relations, supporting efforts on international security, responding to the climate crisis, encouraging green energy solutions, and offering services to British citizens living in the kingdom.
