Police destroy 55 firearms at academy event

MBABANE – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has destroyed 55 firearms as part of the country’s contribution to the African Union’s “Silence the Guns” initiative.

The operation was carried out on Tuesday at the Police Academy, marking International Gun Destruction Day, which is commemorated annually on 9 July.

The firearms destroyed include weapons confiscated during police operations, defective guns handed in by the public, and service weapons that were no longer functional.

The exercise aligns with global and continental protocols aimed at reducing the proliferation of firearms and promoting peace and security across Africa.
