Gina launches economic update with 5% growth forecast

MBABANE – Eswatini is projected to grow by 5% in 2025, according to the newly launched Eswatini Economic Update, with digital transformation identified as a key driver of this recovery. The report was officially launched by the Minister of Economic Planning and Development, Dr. Thambo Gina, during an event held at the UN House in Mbabane.

Themed “Harnessing the Potential of Digital Technologies for Growth and Job Creation,” the report outlines progress in areas such as broadband expansion and e-government platforms while pointing to challenges including limited rural connectivity and digital literacy gaps.

Minister Gina said Eswatini must act decisively to embrace digital tools, citing examples from countries like Estonia, Mauritius, and Singapore where technology has helped small economies leap forward. He noted that digitalisation is no longer optional but essential for resilience, job creation, and better service delivery.

The government, he said, plans to integrate the report’s findings into national development planning, with targeted efforts in education, agriculture, and healthcare.

He also acknowledged the role of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology in pushing forward the digital agenda. Gina called for stronger collaboration between government, the private sector, and development partners to ensure that Eswatini does not fall behind in the global digital economy.
