Qatari royal explores tourism deals in Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls – Zimbabwe’s drive to expand its tourism sector gained momentum yesterday as the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi, hosted Sheikh Mansour Bin Jabor Bin Jassim Al Thani of the Qatar royal family in Victoria Falls.

The high-level meeting, held at Matetsi on Saturday, brought together senior officials including the Mayor and Town Clerk of Victoria Falls. Discussions centred on major investment opportunities in hotels, restaurants and a convention centre aimed at extending visitor stays in the resort city.

Attention was also placed on the Masuwe land earmarked for accommodation, medical, sports and business tourism projects. Beyond Victoria Falls, Minister Rwodzi presented opportunities across Kariba, the Eastern Highlands, Harare and Masvingo, while the city council disclosed that two prime hotel sites were available for immediate development.

Sheikh Mansour welcomed the proposals, expressing interest in sustainable development, tourism growth and technology exchange. The talks are expected to lead to the signing of agreements in the coming months.
