Manzini – Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on African nations to harness artificial intelligence, digital transformation and green technologies to drive economic growth. He delivered his message during the official opening of the 57th Eswatini International Trade Fair at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre.
Speaking to an audience of government officials, exhibitors and regional dignitaries, Mnangagwa said emerging technologies are transforming industries and creating new demands for businesses and governments. “The ingenuity of our young people, resilience of women and entrepreneurial spirit of our communities should be harnessed to create self-sufficiency and sovereignty in all aspects of our lives,” he said.
He urged governments to improve infrastructure and essential services while promoting digital inclusion across all communities. Mnangagwa also encouraged private sector collaboration, noting that Eswatini’s new direct air route to Harare provides an opportunity to accelerate trade and investment. He cited agriculture, mining, tourism, infrastructure and information technology as key areas for joint ventures between the two countries. 
Mnangagwa pointed to the African Continental Free Trade Area as a framework for collective progress if nations adopt digital transformation as a unifying strategy. He described Eswatini-Zimbabwe relations as a model of regional solidarity.
The president’s remarks coincided with Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini’s announcement of the expansion of the trade fair grounds to accommodate growing participation from local and international exhibitors. Dlamini also introduced the Green Zone Experience, a new feature aimed at promoting renewable energy, environmental conservation and green financing opportunities.
The trade fair also provided a platform for Eswatini Railways to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with South Africa’s Transnet Engineering to improve freight operations. The agreement focuses on the supply of wheelsets, D-shed services and technical cooperation to enhance efficiency and reliability across regional transport corridors.
The opening attracted over 5 000 attendees, including His Majesty King Mswati III, former South African President Jacob Zuma, former Botswana President Ian Khama and former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila. King Mswati III toured the exhibition stands, bringing an air of unity and national pride to the event.
