Johannesburg – French President Emmanuel Macron arrived at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Friday ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by South Africa’s Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Velenkosini Hlabisa, as part of strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Macron expressed disappointment over the absence of the United States from the summit, stating, “It’s regrettable that the US is not here. I hope they will rejoin.” The summit will address global economic, social, and environmental priorities, and Macron’s comments reflect the ongoing significance of US involvement in international discussions. 
South Africa and France share strong relations, particularly in trade, technology, and cultural exchange. Both countries continue to deepen their collaboration on issues related to sustainable development and other global challenges.
