Health Ministry to remove disability healthcare barriers

Manzini – The Ministry of Health in Eswatini has committed to removing barriers preventing people with disabilities from accessing healthcare services. Speaking at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, Minister for Health Mduduzi Matsebula assured the public that addressing these challenges would be a top priority for the Ministry. The event, which saw a large turnout, was hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.

Minister Matsebula stated that the Ministry would focus on ensuring universal access to primary healthcare. He explained that this would involve eliminating physical, communication, and attitudinal barriers, enabling persons with disabilities to access both routine and emergency care without discrimination.

In addition to this, the Minister promised to expand rehabilitation services and the availability of assistive technologies, recognizing that these services, along with the timely provision of assistive devices and ongoing support, must be considered essential components of healthcare rather than optional extras.
