Addis Ababa – The African Union has welcomed the signing of a peace agreement between Ethiopia’s Amhara National Regional State and the Amhara FANO Popular Organization (FANO-AFPO), marking a major step toward ending years of conflict in the region.
The ceremony, held in Addis Ababa, was attended by H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and Mr. Mohamed Abdi Ware, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The agreement aims to establish sustainable peace through dialogue and cooperation between the parties.
Deputy Chairperson Haddadi praised both sides for committing to a peaceful resolution, noting that the accord advances the continent-wide goal of “Silencing the Guns in Africa.” She described the agreement as a milestone not just for Ethiopia but for Africa, reflecting the effectiveness of African-led solutions to African challenges. 
The African Union has pledged continued support for the implementation of the deal and broader efforts to secure lasting peace in Ethiopia.
