Anthony Joshua hospitalised after crash kills two in Nigeria

Police in Ogun State, Nigeria, have confirmed that British boxer Anthony Joshua was hospitalised following a fatal car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway that claimed the lives of two passengers. The incident occurred when a tyre reportedly burst, causing the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua to lose control and collide with a stationary lorry.

A police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Joshua and one other person are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. Local police commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed an investigation into the crash has been launched.

Eyewitnesses told local media that Joshua was seated behind the driver alongside another passenger, while a security convoy followed behind. The passengers in the front seats of the Lexus died at the scene. Civilians helped Joshua from the wreckage and provided first aid before authorities arrived.

Joshua, 36, recently defeated influencer Jake Paul in Miami and had announced plans to face Tyson Fury next year. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, who is on holiday in the Caribbean, confirmed Joshua was heading to hospital and is stable but offered no further details.

Videos from the scene show a dazed Joshua being assisted by bystanders before being seated on the roadside.
