Maseru – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the World Bank have agreed to strengthen collaboration on health, protection and data initiatives in Lesotho, focusing on gender-based violence, maternal health, and preparations for the upcoming Population and Housing Census.
UNFPA Representative to Lesotho, John Kennedy Mosoti, met with World Bank Country Director Dinara Djoldosheva in Maseru to discuss strategies for addressing persistent health and social challenges affecting women and girls.
“The importance of partnerships in accelerating progress towards improved reproductive health outcomes and ending gender-based violence cannot be overstated. Coordinated efforts are essential for sustainable development,” Mosoti said.
Ms Djoldosheva outlined the World Bank’s support for Lesotho’s development agenda, noting the significance of partnerships in delivering lasting results for communities.
The meeting concluded with both institutions committing to deepen cooperation aimed at improving health services, protection mechanisms and broader development outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Discussions also considered the upcoming Population and Housing Census in April, described by both parties as a key tool for generating reliable data to guide national planning, policy formulation and resource allocation across sectors including health, education and social protection.
