Fully funded by the Government of Taiwan, the expansion follows the successful pilot of the 5G Government Network Smart City Project in Mbabane. Manzini and Matsapha will receive 5G-enabled connectivity, AI-capable smart surveillance cameras, and free public Wi-Fi. The cameras can be adapted over time, supporting traffic management, road incident response, and public safety improvements.

Minister Maziya described the rollout as part of Eswatini’s wider “Government in Your Hand” programme, designed to bring services closer to citizens and foster a digitally enabled society. She noted that the initiative aims to create safer cities, improve service delivery, and open opportunities for emaSwati to connect, work, and grow.

The original 5G project in Mbabane, launched in April 2025, introduced smart surveillance cameras, a central traffic management centre, public Wi-Fi zones, and environmental monitoring tools. Its success paved the way for expansion to Manzini and Matsapha, with plans to gradually extend the programme to other regions of the country.
