DPM hands over house to autistic man in Hhukwini

HHUKWINI A 30 year old man from Tiyeni KaLamgabhi under Hhukwini Inkhundla is the proud owner of a new house after the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office partnered with the Mohammed Foundation to build him a home.

Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, together with Mohammed Foundation Chairman Sayed Dlamini, officially handed over the house to Mfanufikile Dlamini during a ceremony attended by community members and local leaders under Chief Mvemve Hlophe.

Mfanufikile lives alone following the death of his grandmother and father. He was abandoned by his mother at a young age and did not complete school because he is autistic. He survives through piece jobs within the community.

The Mohammed Foundation also donated food hampers and blankets to Mfanufikile, his neighbour Thuli Vilakati who helped raise him, and other vulnerable residents in the area.

Speaking during the handover, Sayed Dlamini said the house was one of two completed by the Foundation during the Ramadan fasting period to support vulnerable families.

“I would like to thank His Majesty King Mswati III for this initiative and for allowing us to play a part in supporting communities. I also extend my sincere gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister for welcoming us with open arms and making it possible for us to work together and assist where we can,” said Sayed Dlamini.

An emotional Mfanufikile expressed gratitude to those who stood by him throughout the construction process.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Foundation, DPM and her team and Gogo Thuli for standing up for me despite that we both don’t have anything but she stood up and helped me to be where I am today. I’d also like to thank my community members who helped me from the day we started building the house untill the end,” said Mfanufikile.

Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla thanked His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the Mohammed Foundation and the continued cooperation between Eswatini and Morocco. She also expressed appreciation to His Majesty King Mswati III for fostering unity and religious tolerance in the country, saying Swazis worship the same God in different ways.

She further thanked Sayed Dlamini for extending a helping hand to communities regardless of religious differences and assured that Mfanufikile would receive additional support, including assistance with erecting a fence so he can start farming and the construction of a lavatory.
