MBABANE – Moneni Pirates FC have hit back at Nsingizini Hotspurs following comments made about the injury of Pirates captain Menzi Simelane, accusing their rivals of disrespect and failing to take responsibility.
The dispute stems from a statement issued by Nsingizini on their official platforms regarding Simelane’s injury. Moneni Pirates said the remarks appeared to make light of what they described as a serious injury suffered by their skipper.
In a statement, Moneni Pirates apologised to their supporters for the distress caused and criticised the tone of Nsingizini’s communication. “Firstly, we extend our sincere apologies to our supporters for the distress caused by the situation. As a club, we found the content of the statement deeply disrespectful, as it appeared to make joke about a serious injury sustained by our captain,” the club said.
Moneni Pirates said they formally approached Nsingizini Hotspurs to raise their concerns and seek an amicable resolution. “Unfortunately, despite numerous attempts to address the matter professionally, our efforts were not acknowledged. It is now evident that Nsingizini Hotspurs do not view their actions as inappropriate, as no apology has been issued and the post remains in circulation several days later. This suggests a lack of remorse on their part,” the statement read.
The club reaffirmed its commitment to respect and professionalism within the game. “As Moneni Pirates FC, we believe in respect, professionalism, and the values of the game, and we will continue to uphold these principles regardless of circumstances,” the statement added.
Attention has now shifted to league action, with Moneni Pirates preparing to face Mbabane Highlanders in their next MTN Premier League fixture. The match is scheduled for tomorrow at Somhlolo Stadium, with kick off at 8.15pm.
The club has urged supporters to attend in large numbers and rally behind the team. Official Moneni Pirates merchandise, including t shirts, will be available at the stadium, while transport will be provided at a fee, with details to follow.
“Let us stand united and channel our energy where it matters most supporting the team. Together, we move forward!!” the club concluded.
