Maguga – Non-governmental organisation directors from across Eswatini gathered in Maguga on Tuesday for the first day of a strategic governance training convened by the Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organisations (CANGO), covering leadership, board responsibilities and national development.
The day opened with registration and a prayer before moving into a series of structured sessions designed to sharpen governance practices among NGO leadership in the country.
CANGO Governing Board Chair set the tone early with welcome remarks that urged NGO directors to move beyond day-to-day operational management and embrace visionary governance. The European Union Delegation in Eswatini also addressed the gathering, stressing the global importance of accountability, transparency and institutional strength in driving sustainable development.
CANGO Executive Director Thembinkosi Dlamini led two of the day’s most discussed sessions. The first framed governance not as a compliance obligation but as a strategic tool for impact, credibility and longevity. The second, titled “The King V Era: Leading Under Pressure,” explored leadership in complex and high-stakes environments where decisions carry significant weight, consequences and legacy.
A session on the foundation of NGO governance examined the structural pillars that determine whether institutions merely exist or genuinely lead and transform societies. Bhekani Dlamini led a separate session unpacking core board responsibilities, covering fiduciary duties, strategic oversight and ethical leadership.
