Manzini – Religious leaders from across the country gathered at The George Hotel in Manzini on Thursday, 30 April 2026, for a strategic planning session focused on confronting violence against children, with participants making concrete commitments to take action within their own communities.
The session was convened to strengthen the role of faith leaders in preventing abuse, responding to incidents and advocating for child protection. Discussions centred on how faith teachings can be used to challenge harmful practices, encourage open conversations and build environments where children feel safe, heard and supported.
National Children’s Services Department (NCSD) Director Nomcebo Nhlengetfwa told the gathering that the meeting was not just another discussion but a firm and collective stand by faith communities to break the silence around violence against children. She pointed out that abuse continues to happen in everyday spaces, including homes, schools, places of worship and public areas, making it a shared responsibility that demands urgent and coordinated action. 
“We stand alongside you with an assurance that you will not walk this walk alone. There are partners and a growing movement of faith communities across the region and the world who are committed to making their congregations safe havens for children,” Nhlengetfwa said.
