The transformation of the Central Medical Stores (CMS) from a government department under the Ministry of Health into a fully-fledged public enterprise has officially got underway in Eswatini.
Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula, acting under powers granted to him by the Eswatini Medical Supplies Agency Act of 2025, has unveiled the inaugural board of the Eswatini Medical Supplies Agency, known as EMSA, which will take over the procurement, management and supply of medicines and medical supplies currently handled by the CMS.
Board members were appointed by the Minister in accordance with Section 7 of the Act. Siegfried Musizi Nyahoza has been appointed as chairperson, leading a board that includes Khanyakwezwe Mabuza, Thulisile Constance Gamedze, Mfundi Makama, Dr. Charity Newton, Garikai Shambira, Sibongile Zondi-Hlatshwayo and Okwakhe Phungwayo.
The board’s immediate priority is to recruit a Chief Executive Officer to lead EMSA’s operations, with the position still to be filled.
