Lobamba – An emotionally charged Nsingizini Hotspurs FC head coach Mandla Qhogi has attributed the club’s formidability to its president, Derrick Shiba.
Qhogi spoke with tears in his eyes at Somhlolo National Stadium after his team defeated Green Mamba FC 1-0 in the SMVA Ingwenyama Cup final on Sunday.
Nsingizini won the cup for the first time after only five years in the Eswatini Premier League. However, Qhogi stated that he was well-led and enjoyed adequate support while coaching the club.
“I’m very emotional about my brother because I don’t think anyone gave me a chance to say this can be possible. But when I was hired, I told the president the KPIs that will give me definite results. I will make sure that I reach them. And I don’t see a problem stopping me. As long as you’re going to support me.
“So, I’m very happy for the support that he [Shiba] gave us, with the players and with the management of the club,” Qhogi said.
He said they are inspired to always seek a win and looking forward to clinching the league’s champions’ position with just three games and two points to gain for the remainder of the league.
Green Mamba’s head coach, Bongani Mhlongo, also expressing his views on the match, said they could have won.
Mhlongo said although they seemed to have been in control of the second half, they lost to Nsingizini after lost chances, including missing a penalty.
“We created a lot of chances, and defensively they were okay. But then the game proceeded to extra time. That is where we lost it.
“Absolutely [could have won] if you consider that we even got a penalty that we unfortunately did not convert,” he said.
