Mbabane – The government has officially sent off local artists, including fine artist Honest Mhlanga, to New Delhi, India, for a cultural exchange programme fully sponsored by the Indian High Commission.
Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima presided over the farewell alongside Indian High Commissioner Mr. N. Ram Prasad, as the artists prepared to represent Eswatini at a pre-Summit event in the run-up to the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit.
Speaking at the send-off, Minister Nzima thanked the Government of India for fully funding the programme, describing the partnership as a strong reflection of the enduring diplomatic ties between the two countries and a meaningful investment in the development of the arts sector.
Honest Mhlanga is confirmed to travel, while a second artist is in the final stages of completing the necessary documentation. The Minister said opportunities of this nature are critical in showcasing the depth of Eswatini’s artistic talent and expanding its presence on the global stage.
Nzima also took the moment to applaud cultural ambassadors Gogo and Silwane for their participation at a recent African Influencers event held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, saying their presence demonstrated that emaSwati creatives can compete and excel internationally.
The Minister used the occasion to remind artists travelling abroad on behalf of the country to formally engage the Ministry and request the national flag before departure, stressing that it is not only a symbol of pride but also of sovereignty and identity. He added that government remains committed to supporting officially recognised international engagements, with structured assistance available through the Ministry.
Nzima urged artists to uphold unity, discipline, and respect for national symbols as the creative sector continues to grow, and called on them to position Eswatini positively on the world stage.
