Seoul – The Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Wamkele Mene, used the 2026 Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Seoul to make the case for deeper economic ties between Africa and the Republic of Korea.
Mene told the gathering that the partnership between Africa and Korea is anchored on trade, investment, industrialisation, digital transformation and sustainable development.
He pointed to significant progress in implementing the AfCFTA, including the adoption of key protocols on Investment, Intellectual Property Rights and Digital Trade, which he said are laying the foundation for a more integrated and competitive African market. 
Mene said Africa’s digital economy, customs modernisation initiatives, small and medium enterprise development and green industrialisation agenda represent major opportunities for deeper collaboration with Korea.
