Eswatini Athletics welcomed home five athletes from their competing in the Southern African Confederation of Athletics (SACA) championships in Mauritius, urging the nation to rally behind the team for a morale boost.
Mvuselelo Mkhwanazi brought home the first bronze medal in the Under 20 Men’s 400m, while Bandzile Simelane made 22.02 and Machawe Mahlalela, 22.42, in the U20 Men’s 200m.
Eswatini Athletics Public Relations Officer Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini said they made good progress over the weekend and that Mkhwanazi made his personal best. He and teammates were competing with about 18 countries. 
“We are working hard so that they eventually come home with more medals,” Dlamini said, adding that the team was formidable and that they count it as an achievement. They were able to get into the hits and qualified for the finals.
Dlamini urged for support and sponsorship to motivate the team and to be competitive with other athletes from other countries. He said they had the smallest team compared with other countries.
“These athletes have a future, and very soon we will be very proud of them. We will see the results. We don’t have enough resources, and this disadvantages us,” he said. Dlamini pleaded for technical centres where children would frequent during school breaks.
