A Boston law professor wakes to find his son beaten to death in his bedroom, is convicted of the murder despite his innocence, and sentenced to life in prison. That is the gut-wrenching premise of Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, I Will Find You, and it has already delivered the streaming giant’s biggest opening week of 2026, racking up 24 million views in just four days.
Sam Worthington plays David Burroughs, who after five years in prison with no visitors receives an unexpected visit from his sister-in-law Rachel Mills, played by Britt Lower. She shows him a photograph taken at a funfair, and in the background stands a child who looks remarkably like his dead son.
What follows is a prison breakout, with Rachel’s help, and a desperate search for the boy, driving the rest of the series across eight episodes of clues, twists, red herrings and one enormous Trojan horse that stays hidden until the final two episodes when showrunner Robert Hull serves it up with full force. 
What gives the show its emotional core is David’s singular motivation. He has no real interest in proving his own innocence. All he wants is to find his child, driven purely by a parent’s unconditional love.
The plot carries additional layers through David’s ex-wife Cheryl, now remarried and pregnant to a hospital administrator whose own subplot raises questions about whether David is even the biological father of the murdered boy, and how the new husband’s desire for Cheryl may have shaped the night of the killing.
It is a lot to track, but the series manages it well, keeping the audience engaged at every turn.
Worthington’s performance is solid, though he mumbles more than necessary at times. The supporting cast includes veteran Madeleine Stowe, Aaron Ashmore of The Rookie, Erin Richards as a convincingly vulnerable Cheryl, and Milo Ventimiglia as the suitably menacing Hayden Payne, the privileged heir of the powerful Payne family.
The viewership numbers place I Will Find You firmly in the upper tier of Netflix’s growing Harlan Coben catalogue, which now spans 13 TV adaptations with a Myron Bolitar series still to come. Fool Me Once became one of Netflix’s most-watched titles of 2024 with more than 98 million views in its first 91 days, landing it on the streamer’s all-time Most Popular TV list. The most recent adaptation before this one, Run Away, earned 38 million views and reached the top 10 in 84 countries across four consecutive weeks on the global chart.
Netflix has built a substantial catalogue of Harlan Coben adaptations, ranging from standouts like Safe, Fool Me Once and the French production Gone For Good, to the less compelling Polish edition of The Woods. I Will Find You sits comfortably near the top of that collection. It may not surpass Fool Me Once, but it comes close enough to make it one of the easiest binge recommendations of the year.
