The Malkerns Valley is preparing to host over 10,000 visitors from more than 26 countries as the eighth annual Standard Bank Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival opens at House On Fire on August 1 and 2, 2026.
Festival organizers have structured this year’s gathering around the overarching theme, A Return to the African Future, using culinary arts and fashion to celebrate indigenous African traditions and regional heritage.
The weekend showcase features two central artistic concepts. The culinary program centers on Nguni Foodways, highlighting indigenous Southern African agricultural and cooking practices. Simultaneously, the fashion showcase operates under the theme Kwasukasukela, drawing inspiration from traditional siSwati oral storytelling and heritage. 
Regional travelers moving into Eswatini face specific entry requirements at local border posts, including mandatory valid passports, health declarations, and declarations for cash amounts exceeding E25,000. Foreign registered light vehicles entering through border checkpoints incur a standard road toll fee of E150, with card payments accepted alongside cash.
Local authorities have coordinated border operations across primary entry points. Ngwenya border post remains open 24 hours, while Mhlumeni and Lomahasha operate from 6 AM to midnight and 7 AM to midnight respectively. Other posts including Lavumisa, Mahamba, and Matsamo close at varying evening hours.
Cross border visitors are advised by organizers to purchase consumable supplies locally to support Eswatini commercial enterprises and prevent entry delays at border customs stations. Personal imports exceeding E10,000 remain subject to standard import duties and value added tax.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service will maintain strict law enforcement across the Malkerns corridor over the two day event, with zero tolerance for drink driving. To discourage impaired driving, a designated Park and Ride shuttle service will operate across Mbabane, Ezulwini, Matsapha, and Manzini.
Event management has confirmed that no paper tickets will be sold at the venue gates, with all entries processed digitally through Howler and Standard Bank channels. The event grounds will function on a fully cashless basis, operating via preloaded digital wristbands for all food, beverage, and merchandise purchases across the venue hives.
