Lusaka – Zimbabwean President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has congratulated Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and Vice President Mutale Nalumango after they were sworn into office for a new five year term in Lusaka on Tuesday.
Mnangagwa was among regional leaders who attended Hichilema’s inauguration at the National Heroes Stadium, where the Zambian leader took the Oath of Office for his second and final term following his August 13 election victory.
Speaking during the inauguration, Mnangagwa said Zambia remained a symbol of democratic stability, peaceful governance and unity on the African continent. 
“On behalf of the government and the people of our nation, I extend our warmest congratulations to President Hakainde Hichilema on taking the oath of office today for his second term,” said Mnangagwa.
“Zambia continues to serve as a beacon of democratic stability, peaceful governance, and unity on our continent. Watching the peaceful exchange and consolidation of power today reminds us of the shared bonds of history, culture, and progress that deeply connect our two nations.”
The Zimbabwean leader said Harare was looking forward to strengthening relations with Lusaka, including through increased economic cooperation and joint work within the Southern African Development Community and African Union.
“We look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations, deepening our economic cooperation, and working hand-in-hand within SADC and the African Union to build a more prosperous and integrated region for all our people,” he said.
Mnangagwa wished Hichilema and Nalumango wisdom, good health and success as they lead Zambia through the new term.
“I wish President Hichilema and Vice President Mutale Nalumango abundant wisdom, excellent health, and immense success as they lead Zambia forward. May the Almighty God bless the Republic of Zambia.
“May God bless our enduring partnership.”
Hichilema’s inauguration was attended by several African Heads of State and senior government representatives, including delegations from Eswatini, Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, Botswana, China, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Rwanda and Malawi.
