Hluthi Police have arrested and charged a 48 year old South African man from Phongola after he was allegedly found in possession of a black 9mm pistol and 18 live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was intercepted on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at about 1.15pm while allegedly loitering around Hluthi.
Police said the arrest followed intelligence received by officers, who approached and stopped the man before identifying themselves as police officers.
He was taken to the Hluthi Police Station, where officers searched him and allegedly discovered the pistol and ammunition in his possession.
According to police, the suspect failed to produce a licence or permit authorising him to possess the firearm and ammunition.
He was subsequently charged with two counts of contravening the Arms and Ammunition Act.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Nhlangano Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 5, 2026.
