Farmers trained on digital tools to boost agriculture

Manzini, Eswatini – Over 100 lead farmers from all four regions of Eswatini converged today for a collaborative training session, marking Day 4 of the ongoing 21 Days of MTN Yellow Care campaign. Held under the theme ‘Connecting at the Roots,’ the session aimed to empower grassroots farmers with digital tools designed to foster growth and resilience in the nation’s agricultural sector.

The event saw MTN Eswatini partnering with key stakeholders, including Namboard and the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA), to lead conversations on integrating technology into farming. Discussions introduced participants to platforms such as the Eswatini Horticulture Information System (EHIS) mobile app, a Namboard initiative offering real-time updates on market prices, available farm inputs, and produce quality standards.

MTN Eswatini’s MoMo team and Business Unit showcased digital financial solutions tailored for agro-entrepreneurs, promising simpler and safer transactions for farmers. The Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority also shared crucial opportunities for farmers looking to scale up for global trade. Adding to the digital empowerment, the Ministry of ICT’s Department of Communications presented the new Government in Your Hand app, offering emaSwati easy access to government services.

These digital tools are designed to help farmers and other businesspeople improve their operations, access broader markets, and strengthen financial inclusion, particularly for those often left behind in the digital landscape. Through strong collaborations with community stakeholders, the initiative seeks to co-create practical, locally relevant solutions that are inclusive and respectful of community aspirations.

To extend the reach of these important discussions, a podcast episode capturing the highlights from today’s session is set for release during the 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign. The journey continues tomorrow as MTN staff members bring digital access to a community in the grassroots of Southern Hhohho.
