A senior police officer based at Malkerns Police Station was found dead at his residence inside the police camp on Monday morning, 21 July 2025.
According to Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the officer reportedly took his own life using a firearm.
The incident has left fellow officers and the Malkerns community in shock, with fresh concerns being raised over the mental health pressures faced by officers in demanding positions.
