Lesotho envoy presents credentials to Irish President

Dublin – Her Excellency Ms. Nts’ebo Moshoeshoe, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Lesotho, has officially presented her credentials to the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. The ceremony took place on 9 September 2025 in Dublin.

The presentation marked a significant step in strengthening ties between Lesotho and Ireland, countries that have a long history of cooperation in education and development programmes. The move is also expected to pave the way for deeper cultural and economic exchanges.

During a private discussion after the ceremony, President Higgins and Ambassador Moshoeshoe spoke on shared priorities, including healthcare, renewable energy, and trade. HIV response was placed at the centre of talks, with Ireland’s global health expertise seen as a potential support for Lesotho’s strained healthcare system.

Climate change and green energy were also discussed, with both nations seeking avenues to expand access to renewable technologies. The two sides further explored ways to boost private sector involvement through investment and entrepreneurship as a means to address unemployment and economic challenges.

President Higgins raised concerns over tariff impacts on smaller economies and urged the use of “the full spectrum of economic tools” to strengthen trade and regional partnerships.
