Washington, D.C. — The Southern African Development Community (SADC) held a high-level diplomatic engagement with its Member State Ambassadors in Washington, D.C., on 17 October 2025, coinciding with the IMF World Bank Group meetings.
Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, Ms. Angèle Makombo N’tumba, met with the ambassadors to discuss strategic collaboration between SADC and the United States. She acknowledged their role in establishing the SADC-USA Dialogue Forum, approved by the SADC Council in March 2024, aimed at promoting peace, security, and economic cooperation.
The meeting also provided updates on key decisions from the 45th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government and the Council of Ministers held in August 2025. Ms. Makombo N’tumba briefed ambassadors on the progress of the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2020–2030 and discussed challenges posed by U.S. tariffs affecting several Member States, urging coordinated diplomatic responses. 
Chaired by Her Excellency Ms. Solo Andry Lantosoa Rakotomalala, Ambassador of Madagascar, the session ended with a shared commitment to strengthen diplomatic relations and pursue partnerships to advance regional development.
