New Kia Seltos arrives with major upgrades

Mbabane – Kia has unveiled the latest version of its Seltos crossover, a model popular among motorists in the region and expected to reach Southern Africa, including Eswatini through local dealerships such as Mbabane Motors, in 2026. The new generation arrives with a larger body, advanced technology and an upgraded platform that positions it as one of the brand’s most modern compact SUVs.

The vehicle has been completely reworked and now sits on Kia’s K3 platform, the same architecture used for the K3 and K4 models. This platform allows for a wider range of powertrains, from traditional combustion engines to hybrids and future electric variants. It also brings gains in size, with the Seltos now 45 millimetres longer, a wheelbase stretched by 60 millimetres and a boot expanded by 80 millimetres.

Kia confirmed two trims for the new Seltos. The X Line carries a rugged look with dark gunmetal finishes and reinforced lower body styling while the GT Line offers a sportier appearance with body coloured accents. Three colours were revealed at the global premiere which are Iceberg Green, Gravity Grey and a matte Magma Red.

The cabin features one of the brand’s most noticeable upgrades. A pair of 12.3 inch digital screens stretch across the dashboard to serve as both the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. A panoramic sunroof, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, premium sound systems from Harman Kardon and Bose and improved ambient lighting elevate the interior. The second row now reclines for added comfort and the switch to a shift by wire system frees up space around the centre console.

Integrated ChatGPT functionality is another new feature, allowing occupants to ask real time questions about routes, travel suggestions and general lifestyle queries.

The engine range includes a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 132 kilowatts and 265 newton metres, matched with either a seven speed dual clutch gearbox or a six speed manual. A higher output version with 141 kilowatts and 265 newton metres is paired with an eight speed automatic transmission. There is also a 2.0 litre petrol engine delivering 109 kilowatts and 179 newton metres. Kia plans to offer optional all wheel drive with multi link rear suspension and Terrain Mode for varied driving conditions.

A hybrid version is expected in 2026 and will introduce Vehicle to Load technology for powering external devices along with the smart regenerative braking system 3.0.

Once the new Seltos arrives in Eswatini, motorists will be able to book a test drive at Kia Motors in Mbabane
