Mbabane – The Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, led the commemoration of World Consumer Rights Day 2026 at Motjane Inkhundla, bringing government services closer to communities under the global theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”

The event, held as part of ongoing national outreach efforts, placed focus on the role of consumers in shaping a fair and resilient economy. Khumalo told attendees that consumers remain central to economic growth and that protecting them from unsafe products, unfair trade practices and exploitation continues to be a priority for government.

He said informed and empowered consumers are key to building a competitive marketplace that benefits both businesses and citizens.

Khumalo also pointed to the Tinkhundla Consumer Engagement Visits Programme as one of the initiatives aimed at decentralising services, allowing more emaSwati to access consumer protection information within their communities. The programme has been rolled out across various regions as part of efforts to improve awareness and responsiveness.

The Minister further praised the role of key institutions, including the Eswatini Competition Commission, Central Bank of Eswatini and the Ombudsman of Financial Services, noting their joint efforts in strengthening a coordinated and citizen focused approach to consumer protection.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade urged emaSwati to actively use available platforms to report unfair business practices and to remain informed about their rights, as part of building a safer and more inclusive marketplace.
