Mbabane – Eswatini Bank, with backing from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), submitted its application to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) on Tuesday, marking a key step in the project “Strengthening National Fiduciary Capacity for GCF Accreditation of Eswatini Environment Authority and Eswatini Bank.”
Once accredited as a direct access entity, Eswatini Bank will be able to access GCF resources directly. This will allow national institutions to prepare and submit programmes and projects to the GCF, supporting the Kingdom’s climate action objectives.
During the submission event, Assistant FAO Representative Howard Mbuyisa said, “This application represents an investment in national sovereignty, strengthening Eswatini’s capacity to design, resource and implement its climate-resilient development priorities, and to mobilize climate finance more efficiently.”
FAO confirmed it will continue supporting the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini and local institutions in accessing Green Climate Fund resources. Technical assistance will be provided to build institutional capacity, enhance resilience in agrifood systems, and contribute to sustainable development.
