New Delhi – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, where the two leaders discussed regional developments and ongoing cooperation between their countries.

The call came during the festive period of Eid and Nowruz, with Modi extending greetings to the Iranian leader and expressing hope for peace and prosperity across West Asia.

During the discussion, both leaders shared optimism that the celebrations would usher in stability in the region, which continues to face geopolitical tensions affecting global trade routes.

Modi also raised concern over recent attacks targeting critical infrastructure in the region, warning that such incidents pose risks to stability and disrupt international supply chains that affect economies worldwide, including smaller markets like Eswatini that rely on imports.

The Indian leader further spoke on the need to maintain safe and open international shipping routes, noting that uninterrupted maritime movement remains vital for global commerce.

He also acknowledged Iran’s role in ensuring the safety of Indian citizens living within its borders.

Taking to social media platform X after the call, Modi wrote:

“Spoke with President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and conveyed Eid and Nowruz greetings. We expressed hope that this festive season brings peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia.

Condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, which threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains.

Reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure.

Appreciated Iran’s continued support for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran.”
