Eswatini joins regional justice talks in Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria – Commissioner General of His Majesty’s Correctional Services, LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, is representing Eswatini at the Symposium on Rule of Law, Human Security and Accountability, running from 31 March to 2 April 2026 in Abuja. The event has brought together over 200 delegates, including heads of prisons, justice institutions, and female leaders from across Africa.

Dlamini participated in a high-level panel titled “Voices from the Field – Experiences of Women Navigating Justice Systems,” alongside leaders from Ghana, Malawi, and Sierra Leone. The session, chaired by Dr Valerie-Jannette Ogonna Azinge, Senior Advocate and Queen Mother of the Asaba Kingdom, focused on practical experiences and reforms shaping justice systems across the continent.

The symposium, held under the framework of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), addresses challenges in governance, security, and access to justice in West Africa. Key discussions included gender-based violence, barriers to legal access for women, and the role of correctional and security institutions in promoting human rights. The Nigerian Controller General of Correctional Services presented on governance of detention facilities, highlighting institutional and cultural challenges affecting women’s participation in justice processes.
