Namibia hosts successful closing of SAIRAG 2026

Swakopmund, Namibia – The Namibia Revenue Agency hosted the 2026 Southern Africa Inter Revenue Administration Games from 3 to 5 April in Swakopmund, bringing together revenue authorities from across the region, including Eswatini.

The annual Sairag tournament serves as a sporting platform for Southern Africa’s revenue agencies to strengthen cooperation, promote employee wellness and build teamwork beyond office spaces. Participating countries were Zambia, Namibia as hosts, Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini. Zimbabwe was unable to fully participate after their team failed to arrive in time for the games.

Proceedings were covered on the ground by Victoria Shimweefeleni from NBC Sport, who reported on the competition as it unfolded in the coastal town.

On the football pitch, Zambia secured first place, followed by Namibia and Angola. In netball, Namibia claimed victory on home soil, Zambia finished second and Eswatini placed third.

Angola took top honours in men’s basketball, with Zambia in second position and Lesotho third. In women’s basketball, Zambia finished first and Lesotho second, with no third place recorded.

In women’s volleyball, Namibia led the standings, followed by Zambia and Botswana. The men’s volleyball title went to Zambia, with Lesotho second and Namibia third.

Lesotho emerged victorious in darts, ahead of Botswana and Namibia. Table tennis saw Zambia claim first place, Eswatini second and Botswana third. Zambia also dominated the chess category, finishing ahead of Botswana and Eswatini.

Eswatini delivered one of its strongest performances in pool, finishing first ahead of Zambia and Namibia. In tug of war, Namibia took gold, Zambia came second and Lesotho finished third.

The 10 kilometre races were largely controlled by Zambia. In the women’s event, Zambian athletes occupied the first three positions, with Eswatini finishing fourth and Namibia fifth. In the men’s race, Zambia secured first, third and fourth places, Lesotho claimed second and Namibia placed fifth.

Zambia was ultimately named the Overall Best Country of Sairag 2026 and also received the award for Most Cheerful Country after consistent performances across the various sporting codes.
