Malawian man faces court over shop thefts

MBABANE – A 29-year-old Malawian man is set to appear in court today facing two charges of housebreaking and theft.

The suspect was arrested on 2 April 2026 by Sidvokodvo police following a break-in at Ali Cash and Carry in Nhlambeni. The shop owner, a 50-year-old man, reported that at 05:30 he discovered the door had been forced open and E17 7990 in cash stolen. Police recovered E12 6990 of the stolen money during the arrest.

Further investigations linked the suspect to another theft at Matsapha Family Cash and Carry, where E306 000 was stolen from a safe. Matsapha police have formally charged him in connection with that case.

Authorities continue to investigate and confirm if there are additional links to other incidents.
