Mbabane – Eswatini Medical Aid Fund (EswatiniMed) has officially bid farewell to its long-serving Principal Officer, Peter “Samora” Simelane, who retired on 2 May 2026 after more than 30 years of service to the organisation and the nation.

Simelane’s departure marks the end of an era for one of the country’s most recognised healthcare institutions. Over the course of his tenure, and with the support and guidance of the Board, Simelane and his team worked to transform EswatiniMed into a key pillar of the national healthcare system, evolving the organisation into a modern health care solutions entity aligned with international standards and best practice.

Beyond the structural and operational gains, EswatiniMed said Simelane would be remembered for his humanity, his respect for people, his support for teams, and his belief that healthcare must always be grounded in compassion and dignity.

“As EswatiniMed bids farewell, it does so with deep gratitude and respect for a leader whose contribution has left an enduring mark on both the institution and the country’s healthcare landscape,” the organisation said in a statement.

With Simelane’s exit, Sicelo Mkhonta steps in as acting Principal Officer. EswatiniMed described Mkhonta as a seasoned professional with extensive experience within the organisation, backed by a strong academic and professional background in healthcare management, finance and administration.

The organisation said it has full confidence in Mkhonta’s stewardship as EswatiniMed continues its mission of delivering quality healthcare and value to its members.
