Maiduguri, Nigeria – The second-in-command of the Islamic State, Abu-Bilal Al-Minuki, has been killed in a joint military operation between Nigeria and the United States Africa Command in the Lake Chad Area on Saturday, 16 May.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the killing in a press release issued from Abuja, saying the operation was carried out after meticulous planning and successful execution by the armed forces of both countries.
Al-Minuki was linked to several recent attacks on military formations in Nigeria’s North East region.
The Ministry extended special thanks to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to keeping Nigeria safe, and commended the United States government for its partnership and support in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
