Mbabane – The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) has handed over a cheque of approximately E490,000 to Basketball Eswatini as part of the Development of National Sports System (DNSS) Programme, marking a significant investment in the growth of the sport across the Kingdom.
The cheque presentation served as the official launch of the DNSS Programme, which is funded through Olympic Solidarity and is regarded as one of the most comprehensive development initiatives within the Olympic Movement. The programme is designed to strengthen national sports systems and drive sustainable growth.
At the presentation, EOCGA commended Basketball Eswatini for its commitment to transforming the sport through the programme. The funds will be directed toward nationwide talent identification, coach development, referee and technical officials training, strengthening basketball administration and expanding access to the sport across Eswatini.
The launch builds on a series of basketball development milestones already recorded in the country, including the 2025 Coaches Technical Course and recent support from FIBA Africa and AUSC Region 5, which provided basketball equipment and a mini court to support grassroots development.
EOCGA said basketball continues to grow rapidly among the youth and that the association remains committed to supporting programmes that create opportunities for young Swazis while building solid structures for the future of sport in the Kingdom.
The association also expressed confidence that basketball is well positioned to be part of Team Eswatini at the upcoming Region 5 Youth Games in Maputo later this year.
