Matsapha – The High Commission of India in Mbabane organised a yoga session at His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga, drawing strong participation from correctional officers eager to learn more about the practice.
Second Secretary Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma and Deputy Commissioner of HMCS Mr. LM Malindzisa both addressed participants, speaking on the benefits of yoga and this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

Sharma told those gathered that yoga goes beyond physical fitness.
“Yoga is not only a practice for physical fitness but also a holistic approach to maintaining health, balance and well-being throughout life,” he said. “Healthy ageing means growing older with dignity, independence and a positive state of physical and mental well-being.”
He described yoga as “an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition” and said the practice has grown into a global movement celebrated in more than 190 countries every year on 21 June.

Sharma also addressed a common misconception that yoga requires significant time or physical flexibility.
“The truth is that yoga is for everyone. You can start with just 10 to 15 minutes a day. Breathing exercises, basic stretches can be easily incorporated into our routines or even during office or school breaks,” he said.
The High Commission is also set to host a public yoga session on 20 June 2026 at 08:00 at the Tennis Court in Coronation Park, Mbabane, organised in collaboration with the Mbabane Municipal Council. The event is open to all, with refreshments to be served at the end of the session. Interested participants can register by scanning the QR code on the event flyer.
