Kids’ athletics programme launched to nurture young talent

Mbabane — Minister of Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima launched the Kids’ Athletics programme today, aiming to provide structured sports activities for children aged 4 to 14 years across Eswatini. The initiative will run until December 2026.

The programme is designed to build on the success of the Tinkhundla Talent Search, which focused on youth aged 15 and older. Speaking at the launch event, Minister Nzima said the new programme will strengthen grassroots athletics and help identify and develop young athletes early.

Nzima revealed that World Athletics has granted E300,000 through its Grant for Growth initiative to support the nationwide rollout of the programme. This funding will enable Athletics Eswatini to expand its reach and foster sustainable, community-based development of sporting talent.
