Strong winds to sweep Eswatini highlands tonight and Tuesday

MBABANE – Residents across Eswatini, particularly those living in high-lying areas, are being warned to brace for strong and potentially damaging winds from Monday evening through Tuesday night.

The Eswatini Meteorological Service issued the advisory late Monday afternoon, warning that gusts expected from 6 p.m. on June 9 until 11:59 p.m. on June 10 could lead to power outages, fallen trees, and property damage.

The national forecaster cautioned that lightweight objects could turn into airborne hazards under the windy conditions. Members of the public are advised to secure loose items around their homes and exercise caution when travelling, especially on routes vulnerable to crosswinds.

The winds are expected to be strongest over elevated terrain, where communities are more likely to experience disruption. Some roofs may be partially damaged, and the possibility of power cuts remains high.

The weather service, operating under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, said the situation would continue to be monitored and updates would be provided if necessary.
