EEC donates LED lamps to rural school

LUFAFA – Pupils at Lufafa Primary School in the Hhohho Region will now be able to study at night using safe lighting, thanks to a donation of LED lamps from the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC).

The donation was made during a visit by EEC staff as part of the company’s ongoing Beyond Earth Hour initiative, which targets rural communities across the country. The lamps are intended to replace candles, which are still commonly used in many homesteads without access to electricity.

EEC officials also used the visit to speak to learners about electrical safety, responsible energy use, and the dangers of copper cable theft. The sessions were aimed at increasing awareness among pupils about the risks of handling electricity and the importance of protecting infrastructure.

The school, which serves children from surrounding communities, was selected based on its need for safer alternatives to traditional lighting sources. Teachers at the school welcomed the gesture, saying it would make a difference for pupils who often struggle to complete homework after dark.
